Welcome to Quilled.
Thought sketches from an anti-staunch daydreamer.
This blog is home for all and a haven for dreamers. Posts are assigned to different categories, but the themes often converge, flow into each other, and are woven throughout all. The Dreamers' Library – shared exclusively for Nest OQ Dreamers. Do Dream – the theme of tending to your dreams is felt in all posts, but new Do Dream-themed posts will also be added to The Dreamers' Library. The Tower Reversed – as a post-indoctrinated being, I'll always try to be anti-staunch and explore freedom, allowing space for my daydreamer to bloom. Wild Flower Wisdom – direct reverence for our shared soil and skin.
I hope you enjoy your time here & bloom as you are.

The Tower Reversed
I find the word religion beautiful. How it looks, sounds, and the reverence that rises from its utterance. For the last decade, it made me want to spit every time I said it. The word was bitter in my mouth like it was a virus I had to reject in case I'd be infected again. I was raised and baptised into a Christian cult, so believe me when I say that I have zero sympathy for organised sects. But my heart still aches and overflows for the humans whose faith is held by them. And

Close to home.
Debilitating to live in a world at war 24/7 through most hours eyes are closed not asleep but drowsy Ignorant Blissful ignorance Closer to home alarms are heard more clearly Echoes of cries can't be heard across the sea yet in our hands, we can see Yet, we choose not to until our own selves are reflected in the tragedy until our dreams are encroached upon by misery the possibility of Fear, to take hold of our fragility Unjust. So we are told, but only when close to home. a po

Befriend a local tree. ᵈᵒ ᵈʳᵉᵃᵐ
I’ve never felt this way before—I’ve been distraught, felt despair, I’ve felt the constant doom at the impending destruction of Armageddon (flashes of childhood). But this new feeling is so funky and not in a groovy way. It’s taken a while for me to find a word for it. I’ve lived below the surface before—submerged in a darkness—without drowning and without being too fearful. Recently, I’ve felt tossed into rapids, and the currents are a rampage of dread. DREAD. What beliefs a

Thought sketches & scribbles.
A daydreamer’s notes before sleep. 01/01 The follies of fear—have I succumbed? Have I surrendered my humanity—my compassion and grief and hope? Have I let go of hope with both hands and pushed it from my heart with the last exhale, without an explanation? I must release you—I am at my limit. In order to maintain motion in this body, I must detach from this overwhelm—it flushes through me like waves of fire, crashing against me. I’d rather it crash against me—my defences—than

A Dreamer's Duty. ᵈᵒ ᵈʳᵉᵃᵐ
Being misunderstood is not the issue. Have you ever misunderstood yourself? Maybe that’s an issue. Time spent tying up my tongue stops my fingers from doing what they should otherwise, which is writing. Thoughts spread out somewhat like an intricate web – there is a pattern, but the substance isn’t made of threads I can clearly follow. It’s more like a mist – vapour created as my sun and moon meet and the heat evaporates the surface waters of my emotions. As this mist spreads

An Ode to Dreamers ᵈᵒ ᵈʳᵉᵃᵐ
The story of sin and salvation must come to a close. Unconditional love must replace it. It’s about time we all said goodbye to the hierarchies of righteousness. What if the next chapter of our spiritual story was written not in scripture, but in soil? What if we measured our faith not by our doctrines, but by our devotion to this living, breathing planet we all call home? Let our communion be with the earth. Let our sacred practice be stewardship. Let our unconditional love

Intentionality and Authenticity.
let yourself breathe. Is it deceitful to create art with intent – to plan and to polish? If it's not a raw release of pain or joy – the authentic self bursting or seeping through to scream or smile – then is all else fake? A phoney authentic self. I am a writer; therefore, I must write, but when it's a song or a poem, questions of honesty can torment. I want to experience a truth of mine – how can it be truth if it's altered, augmented, curated and thought through? Shouldn't

What function, according to Spinoza, is served by revealed religion? Is his view compelling?
In this essay, we will review the functions served by religion according to Spinoza and discuss whether his view is compelling. From the historical account of the emancipated Israelite slaves in Egypt led by Moses to the contemporary religions of Spinoza’s time. We will consider how religion can be used to instill obedience to promote social cooperation, which ensures civil harmony and order. We will question the effectiveness of this specific claim in accord with Spinoza’s v

How do Marx and Engels conceptualise the relationship between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat, and what implications does this have for revolutionary change? Is their analysis convincing?
Marx and Engels see the relationship between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat as fundamentally exploitative and antagonistic emerging with the rise of industrialisation in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, when machines owned by the wealthy replaced skilled tradesmen. This shifted workers from being independent craftsmen to wage labourers with no tools or control over production, reducing them to commodities “deprived of the last remnants of their independence.” As c

How do Arendt and Fanon conceptualise the relationship between violence, power, and freedom?
What insights do their differing views provide on the effectiveness of violent action in achieving political goals? This essay was a university assignment. Module—Political Philosophy. Autumn, 2024. Violence, as a central issue in political theory, is often considered a means to achieve political change. Yet, its ethical and practical dimensions remain a subject of intense debate. Frantz Fanon and Hannah Arendt are often seen as having opposing views on this matter. Fanon arg

Is it appropriate to describe Astell as a feminist?
Mary Astell’s critique of marriage, her philosophy of education, and her call for women’s intellectual and moral development can certainly be viewed as feminist. However, this assessment must be situated within the framework of her religious beliefs and the historical context of her time. In A Serious Proposal to the Ladies and Some Reflections Upon Marriage Astell’s feminism is deeply intertwined with her devout Christian faith, which informed her views on women’s intellectu

Were there any women in the history of Philosophy? If so, why have they vanished?
The intersection of gender and philosophy reveals how historical dynamics have shaped our understanding of philosophical contributions, with a gender-biased intellectual hierarchy in favour of men. This essay will analyse how irrational biases impact our attitudes towards female philosophers, briefly looking into the historical context that has shaped the philosophical canon to uncover how this framework perpetuates the belief that there are no significant female philosophers
