Page description and purpose: This page is all about community, connection, and compassion, contrasted with loneliness and the despair isolation can cause. For page 14, Shivali will create an urban community and city skyline showing neighbours interacting, passing items between each other to symbolise an interchange of compassion. This page envisions creating cities of compassion to counterbalance the concreteness and coldness of othering by highlighting the gestures between locals. This page hopes to show the domino effect that a genuine gesture of kindness can create in a sometimes hostile society. Behind closed doors, peering out through windows, we each live our private struggles and joys. When we witness worldwide tragedies and the overwhelming pain caused by hatred, apathy, and injustice, continuing to nurture our compassion is so desperately needed for our individual and collective well-being. By rooting closer to home with those in our shared communities, we can reconnect to our humanity by engaging with others, connecting as neighbours.
