Page description and purpose: We can bring about change by becoming aware of what's going on around us and by making a conscious decision to turn a reflective eye inward, questioning what within ourselves needs to be addressed and attended to. This page is a reminder to remain attentive to the subtle ways we turn a blind eye to others and even to ourselves. To "open our eyes" is represented both literally and symbolically — to show eyes wide open, shut or still opening up, while pulling back the curtains that have covered them, illustrates the courage it can take to see clearly and to take responsibility for the changes we can make. Turning a blind eye is to our detriment and, if prolonged, will lead to the erosion of our humanity. Change is constant. We each have the power to contribute to the changes being made. The right changes shorten the distance of disconnect and open ourselves up to a greater awareness. These changes require emotional and mental resilience and a clarity that only comes through seeing for yourself.​
