Page description and purpose: Page eight will celebrate the unity between humans and plants by highlighting our physical similarities and our shared connection to the earth. Our lives are deeply rooted in the sacredness of the earth, born from the soil, nourished by the soil, akin to the soil. I found Vlada's Botanical Diary on Instagram and instantly knew she was the artist for this page. Her dedication to documenting plants for her botanical diary shows she is the perfect person to create a visually beautiful and accurate plant vascular system for page eight. By seeing ourselves in a plant, we learn that "othering" any being is a refusal to acknowledge the shared, sacred systems that sustain all life. Our shared biological language visually demonstrates our shared fundamental processes required for us to live, rejecting hierarchy and replacing it with kinship—there is no human-nature divide.
Welcome to All Other, Vlada. Your profound connection to the botanical world makes you the perfect voice for this page. Thrilled to have you be a part of this project. Rose
I am a botanical artist and illustrator with a strong interest in plants and natural materials. My work is centered around studying and depicting the structure of leaves, flowers, and stems through drawing, natural pigments, and embroidery. I focus on accuracy and detail, aiming to capture the essence of each plant I work with. My interest in botanical art goes beyond illustration—I also experiment with making natural paints, exploring traditional techniques, and working with plant-based crafts. Observing nature closely and understanding how different species grow and change throughout the seasons is something that constantly inspires me. Through my work, I want to share my appreciation for the botanical world and encourage others to notice the beauty in plants, whether it’s a wildflower by the roadside or the structure of a dried leaf. Vlada.
