Page 7: They have blood just like us.

Page description and purpose: This page will be a double-page spread of an underwater world, showing beautiful marine life with a visual reminder of the fragility of all beings who bleed. By reminding us that marine beings "bleed" just as we do, it shatters the perceptual barrier created by the ocean's vast distance — a barrier that allows us to exclude them from our moral circle. It forces a recognition of a shared life, making the exploitation of the ocean and the creatures held in captivity not just an environmental issue, but a profound failure of empathy — a failure to see ourselves in the "other." Page seven is a great opportunity to draw attention to the importance of protecting the ocean and the shared life below the surface. The sea bleeds with the persistent slaughter of the incredible creatures who call the ocean their home. We must be reminded of the impact our choices and habits on land have on the sea's health and habitability, and the wonderful beings who live there.
