Cover Art for All Other, Together
Artist: Dawnika To.
Description and purpose: A favourite book of mine when I was little was The Rainbow Zebra. I loved the tactility of it and wanted the cover for All Other, Together to evoke a sensory experience too—for it to be a fabric collage with rich textures and beading to represent the layered and tangible diversity of our shared world. All Other is a celebration of all beings as nature and integrated with nature. When I found Dawnika's multifunctional picnic mat garment, I knew she was the right person for the cover—not only for her skill and creativity with her fabric art, but because of her focus on and love of the natural elements. Once all the images for each page are complete, Dawnika and I will review ideas for the cover together to see how they each can be woven into the piece—always with the fundamental organic textures of the sky, soil, and plants.
Welcome, Dawnika. The thought of your fabric art defining the cover of this book feels very special. I look forward to creating something beautiful together. Rose
