Despite their tiny size, the incredible variety discovered in the insect kingdom never ceases to amaze. They, too, have brains and hearts — micro-sized compared with ours, as ours are to larger creatures such as whales or elephants. When we consider ourselves in relation to other beings, our perspective on life can change. How fascinating life truly is. This page is dedicated to insects, with their tiny hearts and brains, who, despite their miniature size, accomplish so much in their realm. This focus on perspective and scale is crucial for the theme of othering because it challenges our tendency to dismiss or devalue that which is seemingly insignificant, revealing how such judgments are a matter of viewpoint, not inherent worth.

Hesper Qian is an illustrator from China. She studied at the China Academy of Art and, after graduating, worked at a cultural company in Hangzhou, creating illustrations for children’s magazines, picture books, and board games. She went on to pursue an MA in Children’s Book Illustration at Anglia Ruskin University. Her work is driven by curiosity about the world and a love of storytelling. She enjoys a wide variety of stories, and her mind is always filled with imaginative and whimsical ideas. Everyday life, films, books, and music are all sources of inspiration for her. Hesper enjoys exploring different materials and techniques, letting each project find its own voice. Her approach to illustration remains fluid—sometimes complex and rich in detail, and at other times more open and atmospheric.
